Changing Book Status
- The Cataloging Assistant reviews and releases truck of books newly processed by student worker.
- The Library Director does quality control check on all books on truck.
- The Library Director takes book truck to Reference Desk.
- Reference librarians pulls all the Reference and Heritage books from truck, and take time to look over the new books.
- When Reference alerts the Cataloging Assistant that books are ready to go to the New Book shelf, he retrieves the truck, taking it back to Technical Services.
- The Cataloging Assistant directs the Technical Services student worker to get a truck from Circulation, load the book truck with all books currently on the New Book shelf, and bring it back to Technical Services.
- The student worker changes the new books from New Books to Available by manually checking in each book. The student will need to use Millennium Circulation or Interlibrary Loans module to change status.
- Select “Check-In” Module.
- Scan item barcode into system.
- A window will appear asking to if you want to clear status.
- Select “Yes”.
- Item status has now been changed to Available.
- The student worker takes the book truck to Circulation for their students to shelve. This book truck will be placed directly in front of the computer used to check out books.
- The Cataloging Assistant passes on the truck with books now destined for the New Book shelf to the student worker to change the status on these books from Coming Soon to New Books.
- The student worker manually changes each item record to indicate the New Books status. The student will need to log into Millennium Cataloging.
- Scan item barcode. This brings up attached item record.
- Change Item Record Status “c” (Coming Soon) to “w” (New Books).
- Save work and close record.
- The student worker takes this truck out and notifies Circulation that they are ready to be put on the New Book shelves.
- At least once a year, after the new books shelves have been cleared so that all books should either be “Coming Soon” or “Available”, the Cataloging Assistant will create a list to determine whether any books still show a “New Books” status in error and makes corrections as needed.
