Book Donations
The following are the procedures for unpacking book donations.
- Bring a book truck to where the box(es) of books have been placed. If there is a name and an address for these books, then bring a piece of scrap paper and a pencil with you. Many times a donor wants a tax break for his or her donation, and needs the University to mail them an official letter for it. Gloves and a mask are recommended if the books appear too dusty.
- Start putting the books on the book truck. If an item is a periodical, then set aside. Also, an item is considered a book when it is 45 pages and more. A book with less than 45 pages is thought to be a pamphlet, so set these items aside. They will be placed at the end of the books.
- There will be times only one side of the book truck will be filled when there are more than a few boxes. The Library Director will let you know when to fill another truck.
- If the donor requires the letter mentioned in step 1, then a tally of the items donated is needed. Using the scrap paper, write Books and any other items that are part of the donation. Count how many are in each category, and then write the grand total of everything at the bottom of the paper.
- Push the book truck into the Library Director's office.
